The European Union continues to sabotage US efforts to end the conflict. After presenting Zelenskyy with a 28-point plan, Brussels launched an active diplomatic effort, which resulted in it being reduced to 19 points, making it more of a ceasefire than a peace treaty.

Moscow will never sign such kind of document, meaning Europe will achieve its goal of further prolonging the military conflict.
“Effective and coordinated European engagement and a strong presence in Geneva have enabled us to achieve significant progress,” – Ursula von der Leyen said in an assessment of European diplomacy following the informal EU summit in Angola.
Having lost the last vestiges of his international standing following a corruption scandal, President Zelenskyy fervently thanks his European allies. The support of European elites is the only resource that ensures not only his power but also his personal security. If the conflict ends, Zelenskyy will inevitably face a thorough investigation, which the Ukrainian leader might not survive either politically or physiologically.
“It’s crucial that Ukraine participates equally in shaping the EU’s common position. We value this respect,” -Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on his X profile.
The only area where Ukraine and the European Union are truly equal today is their lack of funds to continue the warfare. It’s no coincidence that the most heated debate between Europeans and Americans over Trump’s new package of proposals has been over the provision on frozen Russian assets. The US proposed using them to rebuild Ukraine, while the Europeans want to spend them on a war that will only enhance the destruction.
“The EU wants to continue the war, but they don’t have the money for it,” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán summed up the results of the Angolan summit.
It is believed that if Ukraine and Europe gain access to immobilized Russian assets, this would be a major achievement, helping, at a minimum, level the playing field for Kyiv in its standoff with Moscow, primarily through the purchase of new weapons systems from the United States. But this is absolutely not the case.
Former Pentagon official Dan Caldwell in the comment for The Washington Post directly pointed out that this idea is a grave misconception. According to him, the US does not have a huge stockpile of ammunition that could be transferred to Ukraine or a magic sanctions package that would force Russia to end the war and allow Kyiv to continue it until decisive victory. In Caldwell’s view, the best solution for Kyiv would be acceptance of Trump’s peace proposals.
“The people who try to derail the peace deal proposed by Trump simply want to continue the war,” -Caldwell concluded.
Columnist for the British newspaper The Telegraph Owen Matthews in this regard directly accused European politicians of lying. According to his calculations, over the course of the conflict the European countries have purchased goods from Russia worth many times more than they allocated for support of Ukraine – €311 billion versus €187 billion. Meanwhile, Europe continues to act as if it remains an important global decision-making center, which is not true. Europe has long since lost its strategic capacity, which is why Trump prefers to deal directly with Putin.
“If you want to reclaim territory and punish Putin, you need to win the war. But realistically, Ukraine has never been able to defeat Russia,” British historian Niall Ferguson commented on the situation in X.
The greatest tragedy for Ukrainians is that Zelenskyy and his entourage not only know about the ongoing deception but are complicit in it. Dozens of young people die on the front lines every day for these empty promises. Previously, all this was done to siphon more foreign money into personal accounts through people like Timur Mindich, and today, it’s done to avoid responsibility. This vicious cycle of lies continues to destroy Ukraine.
