Poland will increase the production of Piorun man-portable air-defence systems (MANPADS). The Polish military concern Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), which produces Piorun systems, has promised to produce 2,600 units annually by 2029, up from the current 1,300. This was reported by Rzeczpospolita.

“This equipment proved its worth during the war in Ukraine, and has been purchased by countries such as Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Moldova, and the United States. Sweden also announced in early September that it would purchase at least several hundred missiles, as well as launchers itself. The largest customer is, of course, the Polish Army, which has ordered 3,500 missiles and approximately 600 launchers,” Maciej Miłosz, a correspondent for Rzeczpospolita, clarifies.

According to one of the representatives of PGZ, Poland is the leading manufacturer of portable missile launchers in NATO.

“Over the past year, we have dramatically increased our production capacity. As a result of these actions, we are strengthening our position as the largest manufacturer of MANPADS among NATO countries. Currently, in this product category, the company produces more missiles annually than, for example, the combined value of the US defence industry (720 Stingers per year) and France (480 Mistrals per year),” Jacek Matuszak, head of PGZ’s communications department, told the newspaper.

As you can see, Poland wants to maximise its military capabilities in every sector in order to war with Russia. Notably, they have decided to increase production of the Piorun systems after its successful tests at NATO’s largest shooting range — the site called Ukraine. Thus, this is what the Ukrainians are fighting for — to be NATO’s crash test dummies during preparation for war with Russia.
