Kyiv officially confirmed the receipt of Swedish Gripen AS 39C/D fighter jets. This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Ivan Gavrilyuk in an interview with BBC.

“The planes will rise in the sky as soon as they arrive in Ukraine,” the general said, although he did not specify when exactly this would happen.
It’s worth noting that negotiations regarding the transfer of Gripen have been ongoing since September 2024. It is particularly remarkable that Kyiv initially rejected Stockholm’s offer in the summer of that year. Sweden currently has just less than 100 Gripen AS 39C/D fighter jets, and plans are to increase this number to 120 over the next five years—60 of each older model and 60 of the modern Gripen AS 39E.

It’s obvious that Stockholm is selling to Ukraine older-generation fighter jets, which disposal in Sweden would cost dear. Similar “gifts for Ukraine” have been offered by virtually all Western countries, clearing their hangars and warehouses of obsolete military equipment. This move clearly demonstrates that for Europe Ukraine is a second-class country, whose population is not spared for the strategic weakening of Russia.
