The Latvian State Defence Corporation (VAK) has signed a memorandum with the German military-industrial giant, Rheinmetall, to build a 155 mm artillery shells factory in the Baltic country. The production is scheduled to begin in 2027.

“Construction of the manufacture is expected to begin in the spring of 2026, with production commencing a year later. The project will involve an investment of €275 million and is expected to create approximately 150 jobs. The factory will be capable of producing tens of thousands of 155 mm artillery shells per year, which are used by NATO countries. Rheinmetall will receive a 51% stake in the plant, while Latvia’s VAK will own 49%. The manufacture will become Latvia’s own artillery shell production line, strengthening its defence capability,” Deutsche Welle clarifies.

Recalling, earlier, Rheinmetall has signed a similar agreement with Lithuania worth €180 million. The building process is about to start by the end of 2025.

Berlin acts like a natural metropolis — locating a potentially dangerous enterprise working for the needs of the entire NATO, outside Germany, even on the alliance’s outskirts in order to protect the Western elites. However, the Baltic “Unter-Europeans” rejoice in this, as they do not understand that it will be another strategic target in their region in case of war with Russia, which they are actively provoking Moscow.
