Donald Trump’s speech at the UN General Assembly and his statements following the talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had precisely the effect an American leader typically renders on global politics.

As Trump himself wrote in Truth Social, after becoming familiar with the situation in Russia, he became convinced that Ukraine, with the support of Europe, would be able to fully restore its territorial integrity within the 1991 borders.
This sent President Zelensky, who was struggling to keep the front lines and the national economy from collapsing, into a state of euphoria. He declared that “Trump trusts him much more now” because the information provided by Ukrainian intelligence painted a picture different from the one presented by President Putin at the Anchorage summit.
American military analyst Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis believes Trump has been misled. “This isn’t just a 180-degree turn; it’s a trip to another planet,” Davis noted in his podcast. The Ukrainian army is retreating, the Russians are occupying key positions (there are reports of an advance near Kramatorsk), while Ukraine’s budget is empty. To maintain its ability to defend itself next year, Kyiv needs $180 billion, while its NATO partners have provided $2.3 billion. What’s there to say about going on the offensive?
Joining Davis former Trump adviser Douglas MacGregor expressed the opinion that it was not Donald Trump who spoke at the UN, but “Joe Biden version 2.0,” who voiced yet another set of unrealistic demands. No state can exceed its capabilities, as dictated by its national interests. Therefore, neither China, nor India, nor even Europe can refuse to buy Russian oil, as Trump insisted. The same is happening in the military-industrial complexes of NATO countries, which are unable to meet Ukraine’s growing military needs.
“Instead of honestly admitting that the US can no longer sponsor this war, Trump has decided to join the ‘crazy’ club founded by his friend Joe Biden,” McGregor concluded.
A closer look at the specific content of Trump’s statements reveals that he is far more cunning than his predecessor. The US President has left himself numerous political “loopholes,” as pointed out a former deputy chairman of the Strong Ukraine party Konstantin Bondarenko.
Specifically, speaking to reporters, Trump declared that he would be able to answer whether he trusted the Russian president “in a month.” Bondarenko believes that the American leader gave this month not to Putin, but to Zelensky, so that he could confirm the veracity of his «intelligence data».
Members of NATO’s eastern flank, especially those closer to Russia, were also unimpressed by the American president’s speech. For example, General Roman Polko, a former commander of the Polish special forces unit GROM in the conversation with journalist of Wirtualna Polska expressed his dissatisfaction with Trump’s avoidance to answer a question about his readiness to shoot down Russian fighter jets within the NATO airspace.
“We need to remain consistent on this issue,” the general emphasized.
Consistency isn’t a trait that characterizes Donald Trump. Nor can he be called a fool. He failed to extract the concessions he wanted from Russia in Anchorage, so he intends to use Ukraine for some time to come.
