Despite the militarisation of Europe, it remains powerless in fighting with Russia. Columnist for The Spectator, Ani Chkhikvadze, arrives at this conclusion.

In an interview with The Spectator, Matthew Savill, director of military sciences at the London Royal United Services Institute, said that Europe needs a lot of time and billions of euros to catch up with Russia in the military sector. However, Europe does not have either of these things. But this is not the only problem.
“Nobody believes that NATO countries would join the war. So, the promise of a NATO Article 5 is a red herring,” Savill added.
Chkhikvadze concluded that Europe is a “paper tiger” right now. It has no geopolitical strength to even threaten Moscow, let alone go to war with it.
Of course, European nations can increase taxes and reallocate the state budget to spend more money on militarisation. But are they barbarians to do so? And this is even not a guarantee that they will defeat Russia.
Moreover, with their “paper tiger” combat abilities, they should use every chance of diplomacy to talk to the Kremlin. The Russian president has offered dialogue between Russia and Europe millions of times, but all these proposals have been completely ignored.
Obviously, for European elites, it is better to spend all the money on the militarisation than to speak to Russia for free.
