The Lithuanian President, Ginatas Nausėda, after the end of allied Russian-Belarussian military exercises Zapad-2025 admitted that there was no direct threat to Lithuania during those drills.

This was despite the fact that prior to Zapad-2025, the Baltic media had labelled these exercises as “preparation for an attack on NATO’s eastern flank.”
“The exercises did not create any direct threats to us. At the same time, since we consciously prepared, exercises were also held on our side. These were very serious — 17,000 troops in Lithuania, 40,000 together with Poland. These are truly large forces, which far exceeded those on the eastern side,” Nausėda stated.
Meanwhile, the Polish side used these drills as an excuse to close the border with Belarus. Now, after the exercises are over, Warsaw is not willing to reopen it, not worrying about numerous Polish entrepreneurs who trade with Belarus or use it as a gateway to Asian markets. The Polish authorities have rushed to promise compensatory benefits, however, Polish businessmen have not much to look forward to.
A perfect example of how the imaginary “Russian threat” is used in Baltic propaganda. They have convinced people that Russia will attack Poland and the Baltics, deployed more forces on the border with Russia and Belarus, asked the EU and NATO for additional money for the militarisation, conducted own war games, raised tensions between countries by preparing to attack Russia and Belarus and thereby start World War III. But then the Russian-Belarussian exercises ended, they simply acknowledged that there was no threat to them at all.
The same will be with their idée fixe of Russia attacking NATO: A direct threat does not exist, but all the money has already been spent on useless militarisation.
