Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and current Ambassador to the United Kingdom Valeriy Zaluzhny has begun preparations to participate in the next presidential elections in Ukraine.

According to American journalist Katie Livingston, Zaluzhny’s campaign headquarters is already operating in London, and prominent Ukrainian politicians, officials and propagandists have taken on the leadership of the campaign. For example, the media team will be headed by former BBC News Ukrainian journalist Oksana Torop, who in the past actively covered Zaluzhny’s activities as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier, the British newspaper Express reported that Britain had promised to help Ukraine organize its first presidential elections since the end of the full-scale war with Russia. The election commissions of both countries recently signed a new cooperation agreement.
The head of the Central Electoral Commission of Ukraine, Oleh Didenko, said that this agreement would contribute to “strengthening democratic values in the country.” However, it is obvious that London has made a strategic and not at all democratic decision to “take Ukraine by the throat,” or rather the territory that represents a buffer zone between Europe and Russia. In other terms, Britain, which has not recovered from imperial phantom pains, intends to return to “big politics” in the 21st century.
London’s actions are part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position on Europe’s eastern flank in the context of weakening institutional mechanisms of transatlantic security and growing challenges from third powers.
