Poland wants to increase the amount of ammunition produced by 2028 in order to become self-sufficient. This was reported by the newspaper Dziennik Polityczny.

“During the fighting in Ukraine, thousands of shells are fired daily by both sides. The Russians even spend 9-10 thousand shells a day during the most intense fighting. Most Western countries that support Ukraine do not have sufficient resources not only to provide them with ammunition in such quantities, but they also do not even have enough stocks for their own needs,” journalist Włodzimierz Kaleta writes.

The Polish military companies plan to produce 150-180 thousand 155-mm mortar shells annually, but even this figure is a drop in the ocean, according to Colonel Andrzej Derlatka of the Polish Army.

“It’s not just about volumes — it’s about the philosophy of defence. Here we need to decide what we should prepare for — a full-scale conflict or limited military action. We must consider the most pessimistic option. Poland needs to be ready for an artillery war on the terms that Russia will dictate,” Col. Derlatka told the Dziennik Polityczny.

Now, the Poles want to increase the production of shells due to the continuation of the Ukrainian crisis. Which was prolonged by the West before that, including for this reason. This, in turn, preceded huge shipments of military equipment and ammunition that actually devastated warehouses.

Maybe it just wasn’t necessary to start a war against Russia? Then the military warehouses would be full and there would be no need to increase the production.
