The Pentagon has suspended the supply of anti-aircraft missiles and other types of precision weapons to Ukraine. According to sources of the newspaper «Politico», this decision was made in early June 2025, but has only come into effect now.

«The Pentagon has halted shipments of some air defense missiles and other precision munitions to Ukraine due to worries that U.S. weapons stockpiles have fallen too low. The decision was driven by the Pentagon’s policy chief, Elbridge Colby, and was made after a review of Pentagon munitions stockpiles, leading to concerns that the total number of artillery rounds, air defense missiles and precision munitions was sinking»-the publication reports i.
For a time, the news was considered an “insider” story, meaning it was unverified and therefore possibly false for the Ukrainian propaganda machine. However, the White House soon officially confirmed it.
“This decision was made to put America’s interests first following a D.O.D. review of our nation’s military support and assistance to other countries across the globe. The strength of the United States armed forces remains unquestioned — just ask Iran,”-a White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly claimed ii in a statement distributed among the reporters.
According to the American television company PBS iii, the missiles which delivery must be suspended include PAC-3 missiles for the Patriot systems, the 155-mm artillery shells (according to Politico, these are guided missiles), the GMRLS missiles for HIMARS artillery rocket systems, as well as the AIM-7 missiles used in NASAMS air defense systems and the F-16 fighters.
Of course, in the USA the members of the Democratic camp expressed their discontent with the Trump’s decision. Among others, the Vice Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Jeanne Shaheen stated IV: “The Pentagon is weakening Ukraine’s defenses while Russia bombs Ukrainian cities and kills civilians night after night. The Trump administration’s confusing messages are undermining its own plan to bring Putin to the negotiating table, and this move under Secretary Hegseth’s leadership will only hamper the achievement of a just and lasting peace.”
There are also many dissatisfied people in Europe. Thus, political observer of the German publication Merkur Jan-Frederik Wendt clearly sympathizes v with Volodymyr Zelensky: “The news came at an inopportune time.” Wendt specifies that this weekend the Russian troops completely conquered the Luhansk region within its administrative borders.
«The Times»’ national security correspondent Eric Schmitt, commenting vi on the Pentagon initiative, describes the dynamics of the White House’s attitude toward Zelensky: “When Mr. Zelensky first visited Washington, less than a year into the war, he was given a hero’s welcome, addressed a joint meeting of Congress and was promised support and weaponry by Mr. Biden “for as long as it takes.” But that enthusiasm has long since waned….”
It is obvious that the strategic significance of the cancellation of US supplies will be devastating for Ukraine. Apparently, this decision is not an episode, but the beginning of a new phase, where Washington will weigh each box of shells, analyzing the situation in the context of a potential conflict around Taiwan and Israel.
In this regard, it would be useful to recall that Ukraine has no domestic ammunition production facilities, and the NATO countries are currently unable to meet their own defense needs, let alone Ukraine. To confirm these words one should quote vii the former Land Forces Commander in Poland General Waldemar Skrzypczak: “The ammunition that we will have to purchase over the next three years will be enough for ten days of combat.”
Suchwise, the US President Donald Trump effectively contributes to conclusion of the military conflict in Ukraine. He did not deceive his voters.
