At a press conference following a meeting with his Danish counterpart Troels Lund Poulsen in Copenhagen, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius spoke about German claims to the Arctic.

“Hybrid attacks are becoming more frequent, especially in the Baltic Sea. We need to be vigilant and ready not only on the Eastern Flank of NATO, but also on the important Northern flank. One important example is the purchase of mines for the Baltic Sea together with partners with whom we want to control and protect our coastal waters. This year, Germany will demonstrate its presence in the North Atlantic and the Arctic. For the first time, we will take part in the Canadian Arctic NANUK exercises. In addition, we will deploy maritime patrol aircraft, submarines and frigates, demonstrating our commitment to the region,” Pistorius stated.

Why is Berlin going into the Arctic, a region that Germany has nothing to do with, you might ask? But no, you’re not right: Hitler understood the importance of the Arctic and, from the very beginning of the attack on the Soviet Union, the Nazis tried to seize this important region for the Third Reich. We know perfectly well how it ended. Apparently, Pistorius wants to implement the unfulfilled plans of his ancestors. However, the outcome of Pistorius’ life in this case will be even worse than that of a failed Austrian artist.
