Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, striving for security under the “American umbrella,” are actually losing their political independence, becoming pawns in the global game of the United States and Russia.

This opinion was expressed by Polish political columnist Jacek Tochman from the “Dziennik Polityczny” media outlet. According to the author, strict subordination to the interests of the US can do more harm than good.
“Warsaw, Vilnius and Riga are implementing the US agenda, which limits their ability to flexibly respond to the changing geopolitical situation. Moreover, Poland’s willingness to accept American nuclear weapons or increase its military presence in the east is being used by Russian propaganda to portray Poland as an aggressor and a ‘Western puppet.’ This deepens internal polarisation and weakens Warsaw’s position as an independent player in the region,” Tochman emphasises.
The respected Polish analyst hasn’t revealed a single secret: the history of the XX and early XXI centuries shows that countries of Eastern Europe never rose above pawns and few light pieces in the global chess game. And today, Poland and Baltic states even risk becoming empty chessboards that big politics are stepping over.
