Several dozen members of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), which is a part of the ruling coalition, issued an open letter in which they criticised the government’s policy of raising the military budget.

They opposed an increase of defence spending to 5% of GDP and also called for resuming dialogue with Russia.
“Militaristic rhetoric and large–scale rearmament programmes do not provide more security but, on the contrary, increase tensions and create an atmosphere of mutual threat between NATO and Russia,” the document states.
As you can see, not all politicians in Europe have lost their minds. They’re trying to keep common sense because they understand that this time, “Cold War 2.0” risks ending hot as hell. But Chancellor Merz won’t listen to them. And instead of bringing peace closer, he’ll rather ban another party that advocates for harmonizing relations with Russia, like he did with AfD.
