Internal political struggle in Moldova is in full swing. Interestingly, the main characters of this game are the Romanian citizen Maya Sandu (who is also the Moldovan President) and the US citizen Veronica Dragalin, a former head of the Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office of Moldova.

First, a little background: at the beginning of 2025, President Maya Sandu decided to get rid of the head of Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office, Veronica Dragalin, who had become too disagreeable for the current government, especially for Sandu’s “Party of Action and Solidarity” (PAS).
Dragalin explained that she became objectionable to the authorities because “Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office investigated corruption at the highest level…”. And Sandu claimed that Dragalin’s dismissal was associated with the fact that “the prosecutor’s office under her leadership has become a threat to state security, as it did not prevent the negative results of the presidential election in 2024”. Sandu’s definition of “negative results” is when she almost lost to the opposition candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo. To win, she had to resort to fraud at foreign polling stations.
After Dragalin refused to leave the post on her own, Sandu began to threaten with other means of removal from office. After it, PAS deputies submitted to Parliament an initiative to merge the two prosecutor’s offices –– the Anti-corruption one and the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases.
“I was told to leave when I insisted that I was an independent prosecutor. 61 deputies from PAS submitted a law that aimed to remove me from office and destroy the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office along with all unfinished investigations,” Dragalin, who was eventually forced to resign, commented on this decision.
In Moldova, they were outraged by the pressure on Dragalin. For instance, the former president of the Moldovan Republic, Igor Dodon, wrote the following on his social media:
“Dragalin exposed corruption, influence peddling, and gross political control over the judicial system by the PAS and the President. After that, will anyone really believe that the PAS is really carrying out a true reform of the judicial system? This is not a reform of justice; this is its seizure. I wonder how long the EU emissaries will cover up this disaster? Is this how the path to European integration is being paved?”
Dodon’s statement was augmented by the Telegram channel “Insider Moldova”:
“There is a double standard in the country: corruption and pressure are condemned only when they come from opponents of the government. And the violations committed within the own bloc are justified by the goals of reform and integration.”
So, it turns out that, as soon as Dragalin succeeded in fighting corruption, Sandu and her closest entourage immediately foresaw a threat to themselves. And given that the majority of citizens, precisely inside Moldova, not outside, voted for the opposition candidate in the presidential election, Sandu’s support is now that high. And Dragalin, who has compromising information about officials from PAS, could spoil upcoming elections for the Moldovan Parliament, where the current President wants to see a vast majority of loyal people, especially from her own party. In other words, Dragalin could thus disrupt Sandu’s plans to usurp all power in Moldova.
But Chisinau didn’t envisage one thing –– Veronica Dragalin spent most of her life in the USA. She worked as a prosecutor at the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Los Angeles; in 2020 was awarded the FBI Director’s Reward. Her mother, Elena Dragalin, is the founder of Moldova AID and the Moldovan-American Convention organizations. She is engaged in establishing ties between Moldova and the United States. Elena Dragalin maintains contacts with a number of high-ranking officials of the Republican Party of the United States, has inside men in the State Department and American business circles. Do you think she will forgive the puppet of the European globalists and allow her to remain in power after such a heinous act against her daughter?
