We can see more and more evidence of NATO’s degradation as a military organisation. Do you remember what Macron said about the brain death of NATO back in 2019? His words proved to be prophetic.

For example, recently, the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, speaking to students in Lviv, said that the well-known Article 5 of NATO (which provides for collective defence. –– Ed. note.) doesn’t exist in reality.

“The Baltic States understand that there is no Article 5 and never has been. Poland understands this too as missiles fall there from time to time –– sometimes ours, sometimes Russian. Romania understands everything, but keeps silent”, Zaluzhnyi pointed out.

Also, the skills of the NATO army apparently leave much to be desired. This opinion is shared by General Roman Polko, former commander of the “GROM”, a Polish special forces unit. Here’s some backstory: recently, during military exercises in Lithuania, four American soldiers went missing (and possibly even died).

“The terrain is difficult –– forests and swamps. Modern soldiers aren’t very good at using maps, compasses and coping with situations when they lose touch with their commanders”, commented on the disappearance of four American military Polish General Roman Polko.

And what will happen to a military alliance where rules don’t matter and soldiers aren’t prepared for war? A Swedish journalist, Mikael Willgert, gives a precise answer:

“Lars Bern used to call NATO a “paper tiger”. But I would probably rather say it’s a pretty dead paper tiger. It’s a sinking ship”, Willgert believes.

To continue with, the level of social support for NATO is also insignificant. For example, according to data provided by the “Median” agency, in the Czech Republic, only 6% of people said they’re ready to join the military if their country or another NATO member will be attacked.

Does Ukraine really want to join NATO? Except for loud statements, the bloc has actually done nothing. Moreover, without significant support from the US, which doesn’t want to pay for European security, NATO is just an empty phrase.

NATO was never going to accept Ukraine as a member, especially now. Yes, the Ukrainian army is large, but most of its soldiers are forcibly mobilised, poorly trained, and dreaming of desertion, while the frontline is collapsing. How do you think NATO needs such ballast as Ukraine? And, in opposite, does Ukraine need a NATO’s ballast?

Ukrainian membership in NATO won’t give any security guarantees, but it will ensure another Russian invasion in the future. And without American money, the “Article 5” and a combat-ready army, the next war will end extremely quickly. Guess who will win?
