Political scientists from various countries think more and more frequently about how post-war Ukraine will look. Especially, this happened amid news about the US intention to control Ukrainian nuclear plants. This, according to Diesen Glenn, a professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway, is a first step towards Ukraine’s division.

“The US argues that the best security guarantee for Ukrainian power plants is for the US to take over their ownership. There will not be much left after the US, Russia and EU are done with Ukraine”, Diesen posted on his social media.
Others also concerned that Ukraine’s split is inevitable. For example, the American journalist, Lenka White, writes on her social media:
“It seems Ukraine will end up divided”.
And the American activist Ryan Milton adds:
“NATO will cease to exist. The EU will break apart. Ukraine will be divided up by its neighbours. The USA will engage with Russia, China and other nations as a peer”.
It’s worth noting that even European politicians had hinted at Ukraine’s potential split earlier. For example, a couple months ago, the Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico said in an interview with the Brazilian newspaper “Folha de S.Paulo” the following:
“The moment will come when the West will say, “Well, we failed to defeat Russia, so we will sacrifice Ukraine”. Remember the Munich Agreement of 1938 (between Great Britain, Germany, Italy and France. –– Editor’s note), when Czechoslovakia was sacrificed by being forced to cede territories to Nazi Germany. I’m afraid that the same thing could happen to Ukraine”.
And do you remember, in the end of 2022, when Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban put on a scarf with an image of a map of “Greater Hungary”, which included historically Hungarian lands that are now part of Ukraine and Romania? In July 2024, a former Polish General, Waldemar Skrzypczak, said that Orban’s desire to return the Ukrainian Zakarpattia region back to Hungary hasn’t gone away.
“Orban would love to take part in the partition of Ukraine”, Skrzypczak supposes.

While the Spanish journalist, Ramón Tamames, even suggested an unbelievable way to end the war. According to him, to conclude peace in Ukraine and protect Europe from Russia in future, it’s necessary to bring Russia back into the European family. No mistakes here. It’s about Russia and not Ukraine.
“Russia should take its place along with North America and Europe in the G8. Russia should be resolutely offered the path of Europeanization. We need to let Russian borders go”, Tamames believes.
So, it turns out that after the war ends, Ukrainian neighbours –– Hungary, Poland and Romania –– will divide the Ukrainian lands among themselves with pleasure. They won’t take anything new, but will simply return what belonged to them earlier. Just like Russia does. Even the US, which is thousands and thousands of miles away, would like to grab a piece of “Ukrainian pie”.
And after this, Putin will increase Russia’s power and bring closer the recreation of the Russian Empire. And Ukraine will be forgotten by everyone, primarily by the former allies who will be uncomfortable recalling the lost war.
