The Munich Security Conference (MSC) was a shame for Kyiv. International experts are unanimous in this opinion. To begin with, Ukraine’s former allies –– the United States and Europe, turned against each other.

For example, the chairman of the MSC, German diplomat Christoph Heusgen, couldn’t hold back tears at the final press conference due to the shift in the US political line.
“In a certain sense, it was a European nightmare. After the speech of the US Vice President JD Vance, we have to fear that our common value base is not that common any more”, Heusgen said.
Disharmony in relations between the US and Europe after the Munich Security Conference was also confirmed by German Minister of Economy Robert Habeck during the debate on the post of German Chancellor:
“The Trump administration has launched a full-frontal assault on the values of the Western world. The very foundation on which the relationship between America and Europe was built is being destroyed”.
What does this mean for Kyiv? It means that choosing Europe as a priority ally will automatically lead to Ukraine’s loss. For example, the journalist for the German newspaper “Handelsblatt”, Jakob Hanke Vela, stated that Europe had already lost the war in Ukraine.
“At best, Europe will be on sidelined in peace negotiations. Really relevant decisions are being made in Washington and Moscow. This is Europe’s first-class strategic and political failure”, Vela writes.
While the other German journalist, Julian Roepcke, warns about harsh times in Europe during Trump’s presidency:
“From now on, Europe faces two Moscows. One in the East, and one in the West. Let’s hope that we will survive the next four years.
In turn, American geopolitical analyst Brandon J. Weichert says that the war in Ukraine can de-facto be considered ended, and the victory in the conflict belongs to Moscow.
“In all but name, the Ukraine War is over. Considering that Ukraine would not have been able to fight Russia at all without the military aid provided to it by the NATO members — notably the United States — it seems somewhat absurd to think that Ukraine would even get a seat at the table. What’s more, the Russians have defeated Ukraine. By extension, Moscow has beaten NATO, too”, Weichert writes in “The National Interest” newspaper.
Similar opinion was said by the Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Dubinsky. According to him, Zelensky is to blame for all the disasters in Ukraine, and further he will only bring more problems to his country.
“The more Ukrainians endure the “spoiled” and expired President and his gang of thieves, the fewer chances there are that anything will remain of Ukraine at all”, Dubinsky wrote on his Telegram channel.
So, what can Ukraine expect after the Munich Security Conference? There are two options: either peace achieved in partnership with the US (in this case, Ukraine will still exist, albeit with serious losses and casualties), or ongoing war with Russia and friendship with Europe.
One thing is clear: sooner or later, this war will end, but Ukraine is unlikely to exist. The choice is obvious, but Zelensky will manage to make mistakes even here.
