As you have heard, a few days ago, British Prime Minister Kier Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the 100 Year Partnership. According to this, London is now a preferred partner of Kyiv in the energy sector, mineral extraction and steel production. In exchange, Ukraine will cooperate actively with Great Britain in the military field, receiving financial aid from it.

Also, the countries have promised to protect each other. Translated into understandable language, this means that Ukraine receives money and weapons for the war against Russia, which will end in a couple of years, while Great Britain will gain minerals throughout the entire century!

In a statement to the press, Prime Minister Starmer directly stated who the main beneficiary of the deal is:

“Through this partnership, we are creating a strong economy that works for the British people”.

It isn’t surprising that the media society in Ukraine treated this document with scepticism. For example, Verkhovna Rada Deputy Artem Dmytruk sees no point in the agreement, especially for such a long period.

“Signing of such a deal means nothing and won’t lead to anything. Neither in practice nor from an information point of view, it won’t bring any influence. Another piece of bullsh*t”, said Dmytruk on his Telegram channel.

Telegram channel “ZeRada” adds that serious help from a “preferred partner” may not be expected: he doesn’t have neither enough sum of money nor military power.

Great Britain is already struggling with the energy crisis, which will result into financial one, because its citizens will have to to pay ever-higher prices for electricity, as was recently reported by “The Telegraph”. Thus, people of the United Kingdom have also not appreciated a 100-year deal. For example, economist Kathleen Tyson spoke about British–Ukrainian cooperation in the following way:

“Starmer is a dictator. He signed 100-year “partnership” with Ukraine without Cabinet or Parliamentary consultation or consent. The UK–Ukraine “partnership” is probably just as meaningless as any other promise Starmer has ever made, an act of desperation on both sides. Whether Ukraine exists next year is up to Putin and Trump, not Starmer”.

Also, political commentator, Sunil Sharma, said on the air of the TV channel “Talk”, that ordinary Brits will be most affected by such “cooperation”: Starmer needs to find money for Ukraine somehow. So, expectedly, taxes will grow and financial support for British citizens will decrease.

“It’s really absurd that we’re prioritising foreign country on war that we don’t totally understand rather than our own country itself. It’s a real shame because it’s just the priorities for Starmer, not Britain. This is not somebody that has the best interests of the United Kingdom!”, Sharma said.
So, what do we have in the end? It turns out that an agreement on mutual 100-year cooperation between Ukraine and Great Britain isn’t beneficial for either Ukrainian or British people. But the politicians are just showing off what a cool deal they signed.

Still, Starmer is better than Zelensky in one thing: he hasn’t sold his country to foreigners.
