You must have heard about the recent offensive in the Russian Kursk region, which was launched by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. About the first try only the lazy ones haven’t said anything. And we all know what the results of Zelensky’s Kursk gambit are, which started back in August 2024. Let me remind you: it has led to the biggest territorial losses for Ukraine since the start of the war in 2022. And I haven’t even mentioned all the soldiers who were killed and military vehicles destroyed…

But now, the Kursk adventure 2.0 has started. However, neither Western nor Ukrainian media believe in the success of the operation. Rather, they think otherwise. So, for example, the Ukrainian Telegram channel “Resident” writes:

“Our sources in the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) say that the AFU operation in the Kursk region has failed, but because of this, the enemy’s offensive is coming from four directions”.

And the Russian army has already captured Kurakhove, a city that was a major defensive point for the AFU. Now the Russian army has an open space for an even faster offensive.

“At the same time, Zelensky is sending massive forces to the Kursk region for PR before Trump’s inauguration. We believe that the president has signed the death warrant for Donbass long ago, because he sees these territories as unsuitable in terms of ideology and worldview”, as commented on the Telegram channel “Legitimniy” about Kurakhove’s capture.

People’s Deputy of Ukraine Mariana Bezuhla stated that defending Ukrainian territories, saving cities and Ukrainian lives is not a priority for the Ukrainian government. She also called the situation at the front “tragedy and absurdity”.

“Generals need to show yet another “forward–forward” to prove to the political leadership that they are indispensable and are excellently leading the Armed Forces, to parasitize on the fleeting euphoria and hopes of the population, just to hold on a little longer and change nothing. To cover up their crimes. First, the southern offensive in 2023, then Kursk in 2024. What’s next? Illusions”, Bezuhla wrote on Facebook.

On the West no one sees even a small chance for Ukraine to win. For example, the American “The Washington Post” published an article in which a reporter spoke with Ukrainian soldiers at the frontline. In a few words, soldiers aren’t inspired that much because, according to the newspaper, “Russian forces in Ukraine are advancing at their fastest pace since the early days of the invasion”.

“Let’s be honest, the situation now is worse than at the start of the full-scale invasion. What can we negotiate now? We can only nod our heads and agree to their demands, and what they will demand is obviously going to be something that we don’t like”, said in an interview with “The Washington Post” Ukrainian captain and company commander in the 35th brigade.

By the way, the same was said by French President Emmanuel Macron on the meeting with French ambassadors:

“Ukrainians will have to conduct realistic discussions on territorial issues in order to find a settlement to the conflict”.

In other words, one of Zelensky’s closest allies says that Kyiv won’t be able to return to even the 2022 borders, let alone the 1991 borders. And in order to bring peace, Ukraine will have to give up some part of its territory, despite the fact that this loss is significant. (At the moment, Russia occupies 20% of Ukraine’s territory –– Editor’s note).

Yet there is a chance to save something, and not lose even more, the Office of the President of Ukraine should not only negotiate with the West, but also with Russia, and not send Zelensky to complain about the allies and swear in a hyped interview with American blogger Lex Fridman.
