Corruption scandals aren’t dying down in Ukraine. Not long ago we wrote about illegal schemes for avoiding mobilization in the Kharkiv region. For this, draftees paid huge money to doctors. Meanwhile, The Times published an article blaming the Ukrainian government for the current energy crisis, with a truly horrendous headline.

“Energy “corruption” puts Ukrainians in front of deadly cold in winter”.
According to the British newspaper, Western allies back in February 2024 recommended Kyiv to build concrete shelters to protect the energy system, but due to the greed of officials, this wasn’t done.
“It was impossible to work. When you see the government creating artificial obstacles, it’s useless. They didn’t pay the contractors”, said Mustafa Nayyem, the former head of the State Agency for the Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine in an interview with The Times.
Former undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Labor of Poland, Piotr Kulpa, also spoke on Ukrainian TV about the plundered treasury. It is worth noting that Kulpa spoke Russian, which is officially banned on Ukrainian television and in Ukraine in general.
“In Ukraine, a vast sum of money, provided by the Western allies, was stolen, from 30% to 50%. With the plundered money Ukraine could be supported for a year”, Kulpa said.
Nevertheless, the Ukrainian Parliament is trying to protect the corrupts. In particular, this is evidenced by the amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as reported by the Ukrainian Telegram channel “ZeRada”.
“The Verkhovna Rada will allow corrupt officials who, according to the new law, can avoid prison by entering into a deal with investigators, to also avoid the confiscation of their property”, “ZeRada” writes.
In other words, thanks to the initiatives of the Ukrainian Government, all those officials who have stolen not even millions but billions of dollars will not only stay free but also save all their “loot”. Yes, you heard right: billions. The American “CNN” reports that on March 2024, the sum of money received by Kyiv from Western allies was equal to $380 billion. So, it turns out that Ukrainian officials stole from $114 billion to $190. What an unimaginable number!
Meantime, delegates are puzzled as to why Ukrainians who have left the occupied territories are coming back in large numbers. The servant of the people, Maxim Tkachenko, for example, said in an interview with “Ukrinform” the following:
“About 150 thousand Ukrainians have already returned to the temporarily occupied territories. For example, out of 200 thousand residents of Mariupol, who had to leave their city in order to escape the war, every third returned to occupied Mariupol. This is about 70 thousand people. In my opinion, these are terrible numbers”.
Irina Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, is outraged by this fact. She reproaches Ukrainians who move to the occupied territories because of the fact that their state cannot provide them with a decent life.
“I will never believe that thousands of Ukrainians are moving to the Russian occupation zone because of the lack of 2-3 thousand hryvnia per month of state aid. Yes, we cannot give everyone who has relocated the same job for the same money as it was. Because we're at war. But for those who want to work, there is a job”, Vereshchuk wrote on Facebook.
It must be easy to blame people living in misery in Ukraine’s problems, when officials’ pockets are filled with money to capacity. It’s obvious that if there was no corruption in Ukraine, then firstly, the positions of the Ukrainian army on the front line would be better, secondly, there would be no major issues with electricity and, finally, Ukrainians wouldn’t move to the so-called “new territories of Russia”, where the quality of life is apparently better than in their homeland.
Thus, Ukraine is losing the war only because of the greed of its officials. So, corruption is the main enemy of Ukraine.
