Europe still gets a lot of LNG from Russia and needs more “cheap” LNG from the US. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke about such a conversation with future US President Donald Trump.

“Yesterday we touched upon (in a telephone conversation with Donald Trump) common interests, for example, the issue of LNG. We still get a lot of LNG via Russia, from Russia. Why not replace it with US gas, which is cheaper for us and reduces our gas prices?” Ursula von der Leyen said at a press conference after the informal EU summit in Budapest.
This year, suppliers of American LNG reduced shipments to Europe, redirecting some of the cargo to Asia, where gas prices were more attractive. At the same time, supplies of Russian gas to Europe, pipeline and LNG, increased. For example, the share of Russian liquefied fuel in EU imports increased from 14% to 18%. And Gazprom increased supplies by 15% to 26.5 billion cubic meters.
