In the first half of this year, about 45,000 Afghans applied for asylum in EU countries, according to the EU Asylum Agency (EUAA).

By the end of July, a total of 513,000 people from all over the world had applied for asylum in European countries. Although the total number of applications remained the same compared to the first half of last year, there were some changes.
For example, the largest number of applications came from Syrians – 71,000. Asylum seekers from Afghanistan mainly wanted to stay in countries such as Germany, Greece, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy. Overall, the number of Afghan asylum applications in the EU has decreased by 18% over the year.
In addition, the report emphasizes that about 65% of Afghan applications were approved.
