European governments should stop paying social benefits to Ukrainians of military age living in their countries. This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski after a meeting in Kyiv with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiha.

According to Sikorski, this will help Ukraine increase the number of Ukrainian Armed Forces. In addition, the end of social payments to male Ukrainian refugees will benefit the budgets of host countries in Western Europe. “Stop paying these social payments for people who are subject to conscription in Ukraine. There should be no financial incentives to avoid conscription. This (benefits. — EADaily) is not a person’s right to receive money to avoid conscription in order to defend their country,” Sikorski said.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha welcomed Sikorski’s call. “The time has come to really raise the issue of the European Union developing programs to return Ukrainians to their homeland. Of course, appropriate conditions must be created for this. But it must be on the agenda. And I support the idea of Minister Sikorski,” said Sybiga.
More than 4.1 million Ukrainians had temporary protection status in EU countries as of July this year, and about 22% of them were adult men, according to Eurostat data.
