The Ukrainian authorities do not intend to reconsider the decision to stop the transit of Russian gas through their territory after the expiration of the contract, which ends on January 1, 2025. This was announced today, August 27, by the head of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to him, Ukraine can allow gas transit for Europe, but from other suppliers – “gas should not be Russian”.
“Nobody will extend the contract with Russia, that’s it. As for gas transit from other companies, if the request from some of our European colleagues continues, and we are all in the European Union, we will consider their request,” Zelensky said.
Recall that Moldova currently receives about 90% of its electricity from the MoldGRES located in Transnistria, for which it sends all the gas it receives from Gazprom to the region (5.7 million cubic meters of gas per day). This transit is carried out through the Sudzha measuring station, which, as a result of the attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Kursk region, came under the control of Kyiv.
